Just like her mother, Varpunen , Hile is very independent and strong of will and once she has her heart set on doing something she will be sure to see that the task is completed to her expectations. This strength of will does however have its downfalls, one of them being that due to her desire to prove she can do things on her own and to a high standard Hile can often behave too competitively, trying to outdo rooks and doves alike. It was due to her strong will and desire to prove herself that Hile was given her name: another pup was stranded out on the ice and the young Hile was light enough to walk across without falling through, pulling the pup to safety by gracefully skimming across the thin ice. Hence her name, "Skim of Ice", as she was able to walk across the thin ice without falling through. Though if you didn't know her you may think that her name was given due to her white coat, it is in fact a tribute to her bravery.
