Maria is such a mother figure. She loves to cook and in large quantities. If someone announces themselves to visit her, she will cook up a storm and very insitently comment on how "you are not eating enough!" and "here here, have some more of Maria's special dish" and "you are too skinny! No boys/girls will like you you are so skinny! Come on! Eat! Eat!" 
Is short but doesn't stop her from telling off the "young'uns" (she's quite young herself!) - she will grump up at them, or stand on somerthing to make herself slightly taller, then grump at them.
